Confirmation held at the ford in Duntisbourne

"And you also were included in Christ
when you heard the message of truth,
the gospel of your salvation.
When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal,

the promised Holy Spirit"
Ephesians 1:13

You won't find Confirmation in the Bible so what is it and why is it important? In the Anglican church we baptise children and infants who are brought by their parents in faith.

We believe that in Baptism God blesses and offers a new beginning, a new life lived in friendship with God and empowered by His Holy Spirit. Such spirituality is powerful and not dependent upon learning but upon grace and attitude of the heart.

However there comes a point in life where most of us can take ownership and responsibility of and for our own faith. In Confirmation the Bishop prays with each person and confirms and affirms the grace they received as infants and the promise of God's love. The candidate repeats the promises made on their behalf at Baptism and makes them their own. This is important because if we are to be disciples we must take responsibility for our own faith journey.
